Students Myah Gallagher and Aoife Canavan recently unveiled their design “Magenta Monarchy” at the Dublin Final of Junk Kouture 2024. Their unique and innovative outfit was made using only recycled materials and “junk” and was a big hit on the catwalk of the RDS. Highlights of the show will be on RTE2 at 7pm on Thursday October 16th. We are number 2 in the line up so don’t miss us!
Their design is called ‘Magenta Monarchy’ and modelled by Myah. Waste diverted from local Electronic manufacturer Valeo provided the team with lots of interesting materials to work with such as plastic reel casings from electronic components and metal bead off cuts. They also approached Roscommon Hospital for plaster of paris remnants to create the form fitting bodice. Their chosen colours, Magenta and Gold, evoke an opulent and regal aesthetic. Their mission is to bring awareness to the anti-fast fashion movement.
The design can be seen in real life in the window of Connaughton’s Hardware, Tuam.
Congratulations to Aoife and Myah on their fantastic performance on the night. Their design is truly exquisite and we could not be more proud of them here in High Cross College.
